Applications
Palladium has been an integral component for many different applications, particularly catalysts and electronics.
- Catalytic converters (over half of available palladium is used for catalytic converters
- Electrocatalysts
- Hydrogen purification
- Fuel cells
- Groundwater treatment
- Multi-layer ceramic capacitors
- Low voltage electrical contacts
- SED/OLED/LCD televisions
- Medicine
Characteristics
Palladium is a lustrous, silver-white metal and one of the key elements in the platinum metals group (which also includes platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium). Despite their rarity, approximately one of every four goods uses a platinum group metal or had a platinum group metal play a key role in the manufacturing process.
Recent Developments in Palladium Nanotechnology
Could gold-palladium nanoparticles revoluzionize H2O2 production?
EU-funded scientists have developed a simpler, cleaner method of producing hydrogen peroxide (H202) using nanotechnology. Palladium has long been known to catalyze hydrogen and oxygen into hyrodgen peroxide, but the addition of gold now prevents decomposition into water.
